The “Perennial” Favorite: Hommel

When you are in a gambling mood but need a little liquid luck, stop by Perennial Artisan Ales for their Hommel bier.

This is one of my personal favorite breweries that serves plenty of good beer, but also has a nice appetizer and whiskey selection. Located on the edge of the Carondelet and Holly Hills neighborhoods, Perennial offers a fun atmosphere filled with board games and a relaxing patio. For the more daring reader, there is a casino right down the road after you enjoy a beer.

Their big draw on tap though is their Hommel bier. It is a Belgian Pale Ale and their original brew. Brewed with cascade and simcoe hops, the drinker will get a mild flavor of citrus mixed with a bit of a bite. The spiciness that you get from the hops is just enough to pair away the orange flavor. Together, they create a dark complexioned beer that is sure to satisfy.

Before i finish this post, I just want to say that I do not condone underage drinking. That being said, since most people reading this are in college, I will start doing a “drinkability” scale. Starting from “Chuggable” and going all the way to “Only 1 Please”, I will start rating these beers.

At first glance, it does not looks as light as it tastes. This beer is very drinkable and pairs well with a night out or a good meal at dinner. The Hommel is very smooth, therefore easy to drink. With the atmosphere paired with an exceptional beer, I give this beer an 4 rating.
